POST GAME QUOTES
OREGON STATE AT HAWAI`I
Sept. 6, 2014 UH HEAD COACH NORM CHOW Opening statementIt seems like it’s just a broken record. We played really hard and I’m really proud of our effort but we just can’t make the mistakes that we do. Their quarterback knew exactly what he was doing and did what he wanted. We just have to keep fighting.
On his team’s effort…We always get great effort from our players and I love them for that. They just need to play smarter, but that comes with maturity. When you play a good team like Oregon State you just can’t make mistakes, but I don’t think we ever quit believing.
On the performance of running back Joey Iosefa…He’s obviously what we need to have to run the football but we also need to be able to pass it too. We all know he’s a good player.
OREGON STATE HEAD COACH MIKE RILEY On the win tonight…We’ll take it. We know we got to get better in some aspects. We knew that last weekend and we got better in some of those things from last week. We just got to keep improving.
On opening up an early 21-point lead…I was just glad we did it because I have a lot of respect for their defense (and) their defensive staff. I think they’re well coached.
On UH’s 23-0 run to end the game…They obviously came roaring back. We did all the stuff if you want to let a team back in there. You get a punt blocked. You fumble a kickoff return…all the classic stuff. They get momentum and they get excited and you go into a shell a little bit. Then they make plays. I’ve seen that happen lots of times…just glad we held them off to win the game.
On the success of his receivers...It looked good to get some more guys going. Our receiving core is young. We think of Victor Bolden (11 catches for 119 yards)
like he’s some kind of grizzled vet. He’s a sophomore (and) he caught six passes last year. So this is a work in progress.”
