Opening Statement:
“We had our chances, both offensively and defensively. We played with a lot of energy, which I thought we would. We need to cut down on making mistakes. You can’t make mistakes against a good football team like this. I thought Ikaika Woosley managed the game well. Couple critical mistakes by everyone. It hurts.”
 
On the rushing game plan:
“What kind of coach would I be if we didn’t give Joey the ball, and he keeps on asking for it too?”
 
On how the defense stepped up in the second half:
“We can’t give up that many touchdowns and have penalties, that hurt us. Our defense did a tremendous job. I think we shut it down in the second half and that’s credit to the defensive staff. We need to get better, and we need to be a better football club.”

Washington head coach Chris Petersen on the opening game:
“Our guys played hard. I think there were some good individual plays. Certainly as a team we didn’t play nearly like I think we can play. I think it’s going to be a big wake up call. It’s just hard to win games against anybody.”
 
Washington head coach Chris Petersen on Hawaii’s early 10-0 lead:
“I just feel like our whole team played too tight. We got off to a bad start and we were playing not to lose. At times, our defense would get into a rhythm, do some good things and our offense wouldn’t do anything. It started to snowball a little bit.”
 
Washington head coach Chris Petersen on quarterback Jeff Lindquist:
“I thought the first half, Jeff (Lindquist) did a pretty solid job. The second half, things aren’t going so well. He hasn’t played in a long time and that’s hard.”

“It was beautiful. I know we can do some of that. It doesn’t need to be all the time. We had John Ross on a go-route on the sideline and we throw the ball out of bounds…we just need to be more consistent.”
