Post-Game Quotes
Hawai‘i vs. Utah State
Nov. 1, 2014
UH Head Coach Norm Chow
On the 35-14 loss…
I didn’t think it ever got away from us. We fought like crazy but made too many mistakes.
On scoring all 14 points in the first quarter…
We played them pretty good and we made that mistake, turned the ball over. I thought we played well offensively, just didn’t get in the end zone. We moved the ball a little bit. We can’t turn the ball over to a good team like that.
On six sacks against QB Ikaika Woolsey…
You knew they were going to get after us. When you play from behind, you have to take some chances and they were coming after us. They always brought one more than we could handle. But there was nothing else we could do. We were behind by three touchdowns. We had to make something happen.
On moving forward…
We play every game for pride. We’re going to rely on our seniors to get us out of here with our heads held high. I feel badly for them. They haven’t had the success they deserve. We’re going to keep fighting.
Utah State Head Coach Matt Wells
On the 35-14 win…
We’re going to look back on it and know that it was a really, really special win just because of all the circumstances. It’s just a testament to our culture in the locker room right now and how they rally around each other. It’s a tremendous team effort.
On Freshman QB Kent Myers…
I thought his preparation was very good for a true freshman. He’s still learning how to figure it out. I thought he was very poised, he’s very calm, he’s very accurate and for those reasons I’m very proud of him.
On USU’s defense…
We just settled down a little bit. We relaxed a little bit and played pretty well upfront. The defensive line was able to shut down the run and maybe try control the pass a little bit, make them a little more one dimensional.
On Hawai‘i…
I think for one thing Kevin Clune’s done a nice job on defense. It’s a completely different attitude and effort that you see from the defense.
