#25 Fresno State at Hawai‘i
Sept. 28, 2013
Tim Deruyter (Fresno State head coach)
On playing through Hawai‘i’s comeback effort…
I told the team we just needed to continue to play our defense and make corrections as we went along and we’d be fine. But to win a game on the road with five turnovers just doesn’t happen very often. At the end of the game we just needed somebody to make a play and that happened twice.
On Fresno State’s defense coming through…
We have a bunch of gamers that are in great shape and they love to compete, but we’ve got a lot we need to work on. We got put in some tough spots with our turnovers, but we’re still good enough to get stops. We’re a work in progress and we’re hopefully going to get better for next week.
On Hawai‘i’s second-half effort…
You’ve got to give Hawai‘i credit. They’re practicing too and they’re fighting just like us. When you turnover the ball you give teams momentum especially on the road. They made some plays and their lefty completed some tough throws that were contested.
Norm Chow (Hawai‘i head coach)
On Sean Schroeder’s second half play…
Sean did a good job but we really started to get it going too late. Fresno State had a big lead so they played soft coverages and Sean was able to work with that and move the ball. Sean, as well as all of our guys, play as hard as they can from start to finish and that’s all we can ask for.
On building on the second half effort…
We don’t like losing especially when we know we had a chance. But we have to approach every game the right way and right from the start. We can’t get quarters back. We’re playing some great football teams and we can’t afford to fall behind like we did.
