No. 24 USC vs. Hawai`i
August 29, 2013

Norm Chow (UH Head Coach)
On UH’s defense…
There’s no question that we played well defensively. We really put our focus on winning the line of scrimmage and I think we did a good job with that. We have a very young team and I wish we had more seniors but I expected this effort out of our defense.

On the receivers…
We had a few rhythm problems with our receiving core but we’ll fix those, no problem. USC is a very good football team and are well-coached. They knew what we were going to do just like we knew what Marquis Lee was going to do. We’ll fix those issues though for sure.

On the team’s effort..
I told the players before and I told them after, all you can ask out of a football team is that you play hard and they did that. I am really proud of their efforts.

Lane Kiffin (USC Head Coach)
Opening statement…
Well, we’re 1-0. It’s really about winning the game and we’re excited to have done so. We didn’t play very well on offense but were great on defense. We sat some guys that were questionable but overall we’re happy to be 1-0. Now we’ll get back on the plane, get healthy, and get ready for conference play. It’s not how you start the season but it’s how you finish it and we just have to make sure we continue to improve.

On starting Kessler at quarterback and playing Wittek…
Going into that last week they were neck and neck, and we told Max (Wittek) that Cody (Kessler) just had a little bit of a better week. A few things he had done late in the week just put him a notch above. But we wanted to see both guys play and see how they’d do. I anticipated both guys would play great. Max’s numbers probably won’t look that great but a few catches would have changed those really fast. Going into Saturday though, we’ll have a definite starter.
