Hawai`i Softball Post-Game Quotes

Hawaii Head Coach Bog Coolen

Opening Statement
The game today between us and Minnesota took on the pace that I thought it would on, with two 30 game winners on the mound I thought it would be a pitchers game at first and then the bats either way would wake up after adjustments were made. In the second and third time through the batting order our hitters were able to see and make adjustments, and that’s exactly what happened in the fifth inning for us.

Adjustments against the Minnesota Pitcher?
We know she throws a heavy ball, a drop ball, and she was getting us on the inside and Keiki Carlos had struck out previously twice. We made her make an adjustment to the slap. The slap puts you in a different rhythm with the pitcher, so you’re not just swinging and guessing. And that’s what Keiki was doing. She was getting frustrated so we put her in slap mode. That slap mode helped us because all Keiki did was find the hole and that’s what we needed and we had runners on. It was just a matter of running the bases. Jessica Iwata was 3-for-3. She was in the zone with this pitcher. That bode well for us when she got up.

Kaia had a lot of pop today. We had a week off. We ended last Saturday. She put in a good regimen this week. She threw three times, rolled twice, and had a live pitching session. I think that really helped her because today the ball was moving, the ball was popping, and she was painting the corners and that’s what we needed to do against this team. They had a lot of power at the top. They had two power hitters hitting 20 something homeruns between the two of them.

Everything going well with traveling?
Yes everything is going well. We have been on the road for a while. We’ve been off the island since last Wednesday in the midst of finals. We are out of school now and everyone did well in school and that’s the important part of being a student athlete. Now they are in cruise mode. They haven’t started summer school yet and it’s just a really good weekend to be playing because their mind is just on the game. They enjoy being on the road

Senior Pitcher Kaia Parnaby
You seem to carry the load for this team. How is your health?
I felt really god today. I had the week off so I had time to recuperate after a long big-west season.. I just had time to recuperate and I feel great going into post season. I feel great, my health is fine.

Do you have any idea how hard you were throwing?
I feel like I pitched harder today. I like the weather and atmosphere here so it was nice to be able to pitch out here today.
