Hawai‘i vs. Lamar

Norm Chow won his first career game as head coach in his home debut versus Lamar.
 
Hawai‘i is 63-28-5 (.682) all-time in home openers, including a 21-17 record at Aloha Stadium.
 
UH improved to 1-0 against current teams of the Southland Conference, having previously defeated Central Arkansas in 2009.
 
UH has won 11 of its last 12 games versus Football Championship Subdivision teams. The Warriors have out-scored their opponent (571-185). UH has topped 60 points in four of those meetings, including a 66-7 blowout win over Charleston Southern in 2010.
 
First shutout by the Warrior defense since 2005 at Idaho
 
UH had more rushing yards (219) than passing yards (150) for the first time since a 2009 home win vs. Utah State (360/337).

This year marked the seventh consecutive season and 11th time in the last 12 seasons, UH played an FCS team.
 
UH has now won its last four home openers vs. FCS teams (2009 vs. Central Arkansas, 2008 vs. Weber State, 2007  vs. Northern Colorado).
 
Since 2000, UH is 10-8 in games following bye weeks  and 14-4 in games after playing a ranked opponent.
 
John Lister scored his first career touchdown on a 7-yard scamper in the second quarter. Lister added his second touchdown on a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter.
 
Trevor Davis’ 50-yard reception from Sean Schroeder in the second quarter was UH’s longest play from scrimmage this season. 
 
Sophomore safety Bubba Poueu-Luna recorded his first career sack with a second-quarter takedown of Ryan Mossakawski.
 
Darius Bright scored his first touchdown of the season and second career touchdown with an 8-yard catch in the second quarter.
 
Junior wide receiver Chris Gant scored his first career touchdown on a 9-yard catch from Sean Schroeder in the fourth quarter.
 
John Hardy-Tuliau recorded his sixth career blocked kick on a Lamar punt in the second quarter. The blocked punt was returned by Ne’Quan Phillips for a 21-yd touchdown. UH’s last blocked punt for a touchdown came at Nevada last season by Hardy-Tuliau.
 
Mike Edwards’ 95-yard kickoff return touchdown to start the second half was UH’s first kickoff return touchdown since Ryan Mouton’s 90-yard return at Fresno State in 2008.
 
UH scored twice on special teams in a game for the first time since scoring on a punt return and kickoff return in its 2007 season opener vs. UH Northern Colorado.
 
Freshman Ne’quan Phillips (CB) and Kamalani Alo (LB) made their first career starts on defense. Sophomore Scott Harding, who started at punter for the second straight game, made his first career start at wide receiver.  
 
Making their first starts of the season were senior wide receiver Darius Bright and junior safety John Hardy-Tuliau.
