Post-Game Quotes
Hawai‘i vs. UC Davis
Sept. 24, 2011
UC Davis head coach Bob Biggs
General comment
“We obviously didn’t get good pressure on Bryant (Moniz). He was on, too. We didn’t do a good job jamming their receivers. They caught us in a lot of zone coverages and he found the seams and the receivers, I thought, did a great job getting into the seams. He put the ball right where they needed to have it and they made some catches, too. They were just much better than we were tonight. No question about it.”
On UC Davis’ lack of offense
“We were not good. We just couldn’t get anything going in the first half. We tried to mix it up with the run and the pass, but we just couldn’t get anything going. I give credit to Hawai‘i. They’re a better football team than we are.”
On UC Davis’ improved play in the second half
“We talked about we have a long season ahead of us. What happened, happened in the first half. We can’t change that and we need to start finding ourselves. It was kind of a gut check. We wanted to feel good about ourselves after the second half. We wanted to have something to build on going into a bye week. We’ll be playing teams closer to our level athletically. Believe it or not, as bad as the score was, at our level we have a chance to be a pretty decent team.”
On Hawai‘i QB Bryant Moniz
“We had him trapped a couple of times and he was able to elude the pressure and make big plays with his feet. A couple plays in the first half, he kept drives alive with his feet when we had a chance to get him.”
If surprised on how game turned out
“I didn’t expect this to be honest. I thought we’d be more competitive, but our offense needed to be better. They (the Warriors) took things away from us and put pressure on our quarterback.”
On playing against Hawai‘i’s offense
“We knew we were going to have some problems with our defense. It’s choose your poison. If you try to bring a lot of pressure, then you’re leaving man coverage out there. We tried to change some of our zone pressure and he (Moniz) recognized it and put the ball right on the money.”
Hawai‘i head coach Greg McMackin
General comment
“We got a little sloppy in the second half, but we were still good enough to win.”
On Hawai‘i QB Moniz
“The thing is (offensive coordinator Nick) Rolo(vich) last year took him out at six (passing touchdowns in the first half against Charleston Southern). He held the record with six, so he (Moniz) tied the record. So I made sure he kept Mo in to break the record.”
On Hawai‘i receiving corps
“That first group did a nice job. In the second half, we played the second and third group. We’re really deep.”
On team’s rebound from loss against UNLV
“They were ticked off. We’re still ticked off. We’re going to keep working like this. The teams we have (remaining) aren’t easy. It doesn’t feel good to have people (media and fans) say bad things about you.”
