Post Game Quotes
Hawai‘i vs. Utah State
Feb. 25, 2010

UH Head Coach Bob Nash

Thoughts about the loss…
“Our guys, they fought hard. I thought, in that first half especially, we did some good things early on and towards the end of it we went on a little hiatus, we couldn’t score, and they picked it up and got some separation from us and we were never able to make up that deficit. We held them to 40 percent shooting in the first half and we only shot 28 percent, but we came out in the second half and we shot the ball at 57 percent and they shot it at 46 percent. We did what we needed to do, but then when you step up to the free throw line you’ve got to be able to make free throws.”

“We’re not a team that forces a lot of turnovers…we’ve got to take care of the basketball. I thought our guys, for the most part, did as best as they could under the circumstances.”

On UtahState’s defense of Roderick Flemings…
“They doubled him (Flemings) and…when you get doubled like that you’ve just got to be smart and give it to another guy and you’ll have to play another time, and there will be times when they’ll break down and you will get a wide open shot.”

On UH’s five seniors who’ll play their final home game Saturday…
“It’s a difficult time, you’ve got some guys like (Paul) Campbell and (Adhar) Mayen that have been in the program three years. Rod and Petras (Balocka) and Brandon Adams have been in the program two years, but you build a bond with these guys every single day. You’re in the hotel rooms, you get to know them coaching, you get to know all their habits and when these guys leave, it’s a sad time and it’s a happy time all wrapped up in one because hopefully as a coach I’ve prepared them for what’s out there in life. Basketball is what we do as our job, but life is when they have to go out there and make a living for their families hopefully I’ve prepared them for that.”

On Saturday’s opponent, Nevada
“We’ve got to win (Nevada game) and there’s no if’s, and’s, or but’s about it. If we want to get to the tournament that’s what we have to do. Then we’ve got to go to Boise and see what we can do against Boise at Boise.”
