I’ve got to give BYU credit. They’re a very good basketball team, a tournament-caliber team. They knew where to find their offense and did a good job knocking down timely jump shots and got the separation on us and some fast break baskets but we just never could recover. Their speed and size took over. They played an awesome game and we didn’t play our best one.
Our guys have to be patient in the offense, setting the screens, and getting each other open. But tonight I think they were a little impatient in coming off screens, and didn’t let the system work for them. I thought our guys were ready to play, but for some reason we didn’t perform well.
We needed to be at very high level tonight against a very good team, but for some reason we just didn’t have the effort. I put the blame on myself. I thought we were ready, we’ve had good days at practice, we’ve had meetings and talked about things, but for some reason we came out a little flat. We got the offense going for there for a while, and then all of a sudden went away from it and BYU got a little spurt on us, and we never recovered from it.
Junior Point Guard Hiram Thompson
We had our moments of good basketball, but we’ve gotta play 40 minutes of it. We kinda just got out of our offense and our defense. We need to just keep it together for a full 40.
Senior forward Petras Balocka
We just got out of our offense and when we do run our offense smoothly we get a lot of open layups. It doesn’t matter who’s tall or short and when we get out of our offense it becomes a struggle.
