Post Game Quotes
Hawai‘i vs. Northern Colorado
Nov. 16, 2009
UH Head Coach Bob Nash
On UH’s comeback, which came up short…
The guys didn’t quit. We put a little pressure on them and came up with some turnovers that got us in a position where it was a close game. But going into tonight’s game, I thought we broke out of system maybe too much and had us playing a little more erratic than I’d like and weren’t solid enough.
We can’t fault the effort of the team and Hiram (Thompson), just they made big plays when they needed to and you just got to give Northern Colorado credit. I want to tip my hat to them, they came on over, stayed within system they did a nice job of taking us out of some of our offensive sets. They stayed in theirs and got big baskets when they needed to.
On the game plan going into tonight’s game…
We talked about taking ill-advised shots at times, not staying in our patterns. We just broke out of our system and we didn’t know where our shots were coming from. In the second half we did a much better job of beating the boards and being aggressive on the offensive boards and getting back to our offense. We gave them that big run there towards the end and had to work hard to get back and when you have a short bench, you just run out of gas.
On the matchup between UNC’s Yahosh Bonner and UH’s Dwain Williams…
They put a lot of pressure on you and Bonner is a tremendous defender. They kept going at each other and he may have got in Williams head and took him out of his comfort zone and shooting 4 for 16, he’s a much better shooter than that and he’ll play better. This was a big stage for him and tonight he didn’t play as good as he should.
On the play of Jeremy Lay…
He’s a tremendous competitor and he’s one of those guards that are a little better in the system in terms of running our offensive stuff. He put us on his back and tried to carry us and worked hard on the defensive end, picking up steals and creating some situations where we had a chance to creep back into the game.
