Biography

2024 (Sophomore):
Academic All-Big West
  • Played in 30 matches and 88 sets and made one start as a serving and defensive specialist and reserve setter.
  • Made her lone start of the season against TCU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
  • Ranked third on the team with 53 assists with a season-high nine against CSUN (Oct. 27)
  • Set season highs with four digs against SMU (Aug. 30) and Cal State Fullerton (Sept. 28)
  • Posted a season-high two kills and eight assists against Pepperdine (Sept. 6)
  • Named the team's Most Inspirational Player
  • Named to the Big West Commissioners Honor Roll

2023 (Redshirt Freshman)
Academic All-Big West 
  • Played in 21 matches and 35 sets. Made her collegiate debut against Oregon on Aug. 27.
  • Ranked second on the team with 99 assists (2.83 per set).
  • Posted seven kills and two services aces.
  • Recorded 22 digs and three block assists.
  • Recorded double-digit assists in three matches.
  • Distributed a season-high 17 assists against UC San Diego (Nov. 17).
  • Had a season high three digs against Cal State Fullerton (Oct. 6) and UC San Diego (Nov. 17).
 
2022:

Prep:
  • A 2022 graduate of Punahou School
  • Earned three varsity letters in volleyball and two in track & field
  • Helped lead the Buff and Blue to a league championship in 2021 while finishing second at the state tournament twice in 2019 and '21 (Did not play in 2020 due to Covid)
  • As a senior, she recorded 534 assists, averaging 9.7 assists per game with 111 digs, and 33 total blocks.
  • Earned all-state first team honors as a setter in 2021
  • This past season as a senior, was coached by former UH All-American Reydan "Tita" Ahuna who lead the 'Bows to its most recent NCAA volleyball championship title in 1987
  • In track, won the 2019 league high jump title while helping the team win the league championship in 2019
  • In 2022 was named to the Star-Advertiser All-State Volleyball Fab 15 and a 2022 ScoringLive All-Hawaii Girls Volleyball player
  • While at Punahou School, won the Junior Female Athlete of the Year - McEldowney-Matthias Memorial Award; was a 2022 Honor Scholar-Athlete and a 2022 Punahou Athletic Award honoree
 
Personal:
  • Has two older brothers
  • Is a second-generation athlete at UH. Father John Matias, Jr. was a first baseman/designated hitter on the UH baseball team (1986-89) and remains UH’s career leader with 30 home runs. He is the program’s single-season leader with a .723 slugging percentage in 1988.
  • Mother Jennifer is also a University of Hawai‘i was a Rainbow Dancer at UH athletic events during her time at UH
  • Grandfather John Matias, Sr. played Major League Baseball for the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals. He later was a longtime high school coach at Pearl City High School and Damien Memorial School. Played baseball, football and basketball at Farrington High and is still remembered for hitting four home runs against Waimea HS in an HHSAA state tournament game 
  • Grand-uncle Robert Matias played in the Baltimore Orioles organization
  • Played for Rainbow Volleyball Club (RVCH), Outrigger Beach, and Spike and Serve (SAS) club teams.
