Biography

2015 (Sophomore): Started all 13 games at cornerback...concluded the year with a team eighth-best 53 total tackles (38 solo, 15 assisted), including 1.5 for loss and one sack, also forcing one fumble...registered a team-leading 15 pass breakups, the second-highest total in the Mountain West and eight-most in the NCAA, missing an opportunity to tie the school season record by only three breakups...consistent leader on a defense that held seven opponents to fewer that 200 yards passing, and allowed only one 300-yard passing game...made a career high 11 total tackles (10 solo) in the season-opening with over Colorado (Sept. 3), also logging three pass breakups...also made nine total tackles at No. 21 Wisconsin, breaking up one pass...served as primary punt returner, with 19 returns for a Mountain West third-best (42nd NCAA) 7.4 yards per return...had a career-best 37-yard return at Nevada (Oct. 24), highlighting a 60-yard day on three returns...had a career-best four returns against San Diego State (Oct. 10) for 37 yards...received all-Mountain West honorable mention recognition as a defensive back.

2014 (Freshman): Appeared in 10 games, making eight starts at cornerback…finished the season with 36 total tackles (31 solo, 5 assisted), including one for loss, one forced fumble, and six pass breakups…started the final eight games of the season…in first career start versus Wyoming (Oct. 11), totaled six tackles and three pass breakups…season-high seven tackles against Nevada (Oct. 25)…had two pass breakups and forced a fumble at Colorado State (Nov. 8)…tallied six tackles at San Jose State (Nov. 15).

Prep: A 2014 graduate of Suitland High School in Forestville, Md…rated as the No. 42 prospect in the state of Maryland and No. 169 cornerback nationally by 247sports…played both wide receiver and defensive back…helped Suitland to county and regional championships and a Class 4A state runner-up finish…named all-state honorable mention and 4A League all-county first team as a receiver…was the team’s second leading receiver with 20 catches for 503 yards and five TDs...named team MVP...participated in the 2014 Offense-Defense All-American Bowl in Orlando, Fla.

Personal: Born in Florence, S.C....intends to major in archietecture...has one older brother and one older sister...parents are Mack and Nicole Nelson of Bowie, Md.
