HONOLULU — Following the Mountain West's announcement of MW+, its new direct-to-consumer digital subscription platform powered by Kiswe, the University of Hawai'i Athletics Department is thrilled to announce that more than 200 live UH sporting events – home and away – will be available on the app this year.
This rollout coincides with a new four-year agreement that makes Hawaii News Now (HNN) the official broadcast partner for UH Athletics. Through this partnership, HNN has committed to broadcasting at least 110 UH home games each year.
UH Athletics will stream another 40+ home games on the MW+ app while conference road games for a number of sports, including men's and women's basketball, women's volleyball, soccer, baseball, and softball will also be available.
The dual-distribution model provides unprecedented access for the Rainbow Warrior and Rainbow Wahine fan base:
- Fans in Hawai'i: Local viewers will be able to watch over 110 home games free on statewide television via KFVE (K5). Viewers who subscribe to MW+ will have access to 40+ additional UH home broadcasts, along with conference road games. Select UH student-produced events will also be carried on K5.
- Fans Outside of Hawai'i: For mainland and international viewers, the MW+ app will serve as the exclusive streaming home to watch 200+ live home and away broadcasts.
A majority of each subscription purchased through the UH's dedicated page on MW+ app will directly support UH Athletics. Subscribers must select "Hawai'i" as their favorite team in order for UH to receive the revenue from each subscription.
"This is a landmark moment for Hawai'i Athletics and our incredible fan base," said UH Athletics Director
Matt Elliott. "By combining the widespread, free local reach of K5 with the national streaming power of the new MW+ app, we are ensuring that every fan, whether they are right here on the islands or across the globe, has a front-row seat to support the 'Bows. The fact that subscription revenues directly benefit our student-athletes makes this a massive win for the future of our programs."
Nationally televised games on Mountain West partners CBS Sports, FOX, and The CW will not be shown on the MW+ app. In addition, broadcasts of some UH sports that compete in the Big West Conference (men's volleyball, women's water polo, and beach volleyball) will be shown on K5 and streamed on ESPN+.
MW+ Subscription and Pricing
Built to bring fans closer to the action than ever before, MW+ will serve as the dedicated home for live events, original programming, and on-demand content. This addition, along with HNN's free Warrior Channel, brings dedicated UH Athletics content to all fans, in Hawai'i and beyond.
MW+ will offer an annual subscription for $79.99 and a monthly subscription for $10.99. To celebrate the launch, the Conference will offer a limited-time early adopter promotion. Fans who purchase an annual subscription in July, August, and September will receive a $67.99 rate, a 15% discount off the standard annual price.
Fans can watch MW+ worldwide on a variety of platforms and devices, including desktop and mobile web browsers, Apple and Android mobile devices, and streaming devices such as Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Amazon Prime Channels (coming soon), and more.
