LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Hawai'i setter
Tread Rosenthal has been selected as one of four finalists for the AVCA Men's Collegiate Player of the Year Award.
The announcement comes a week after the Austin, Texas, native was named the Big West Player of the Year. It also arrives just days after he led the Rainbow Warriors to a four-set victory over USC in the NCAA Regional Final, securing the team's trip to the NCAA Championships in Los Angeles.
The other three finalists were Pepperdine's Cole Hartke, Ball State's Patrick Rogers, and UCLA's Andrew Rowan. The Player of the Year will be announced on Friday, May 8, at the championship social held the day before the national semifinals.
A first-team AVCA All-American last season, Rosenthal currently ranks second nationally in assists per set (10.75) while directing the nation's No. 4-ranked offense (.366). The three-time All-Big West first team honoree was also named the league's Setter of the Week a record 11 times this season.
A Rainbow Warrior has been named AVCA Player of the Year five times in program history. Costas Theocharidis is the school's only two-time winner (2001 and 2003), while Yuval Katz became the program's first recipient in 1996. In recent years, Rado Parapunov earned the honor in 2021, and Jakob Thelle won the award in 2023.
