Men's Basketball Gears Up For Its Final Big West Championship

HENDERSON, Nev.   After a successful regular-season, the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team gears up for the postseason and the 2026 Credit Union 1 Big West Championship. The Rainbow Warriors received an all-important double-bye as the No. 2 seed and will open the tournament on Friday, March 13 at 8:30 p.m. PT/5:30 p.m HT in the semifinals where they will face either No. 3 Cal State Fullerton, No. 6 UC Davis or No. 7 UC Santa Barbara.  

This will be the last Big West Championship appearance for the Rainbow Warriors who join the Mountain West next season. UH seeks its second-ever Big West tournament title and first since Eran Ganot's debut season in 2015-16.

NEWS & NOTES
  • For the first time since the format was implemented, UH received a double-bye in the Big West Championship. It is also the first time UH is a No. 2 seed in the tournament. 
  • The 'Bows have been in the semifinals in three of their last four appearances in the tournament (2022, '24, '26).
  • Hawai'i returns to Henderson after not qualifying for last year's tournament when it finished with its only losing Big West record in 14 years in the league.
  • The 'Bows responded in its final year in the Big West, falling just one win shy of a regular-season title.
  • UH is 2-4 all-time in the Lee's Family Forum, including 2-3 in the Big West Championship.
  • Three Rainbow Warriors earned All-Big West honors on Tuesday: Isaac Johnson (1st team), Dre Bullock (2nd team) and Hunter Erickson (honorable mention).
  • The 'Bows are averaging 80.0 points per game. The 2013-14 squad averaged 80.0 points per game and the highest average prior to that came in 1972-73 (85.8).
  • The 'Bows are 6-1 coming off a loss this season and have lost back-to-back games just once this season.
  • UH finished 16-3 at home this season. It was  the program's best home record since the 2015-16 squad went 17-3 in Eran Ganot's debut season.
  • The Big West achieved its highest-ever ranking in KenPom as the 11th ranked conference in the nation. UH was the highest ranked BW team earlier this year when it peaked at 87.
  • UH ranks in the top 35 in the NCAA in 5 categories – defensive rebounds (13th), 3FG% defense (20th), FT attempts (19th), FTs made (21st) and rebound margin (32nd).
