HONOLULU – Behind an explosive offensive performance and a dominant collective effort on the mound, the Hawai'i baseball team dismantled Chaminade, 15-0, in a seven-inning run-rule victory Tuesday night at Les Murakami Stadium.
 
The Rainbow Warriors (9-7) snapped a three-game skid in emphatic fashion, concluding their season-opening homestand with their 17th consecutive win over a local Division II opponent.
 
Hawai'i wasted no time asserting its will, tagging Chaminade starter Neville Till for four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Kody Watanabe provided the early fireworks with a bases-clearing three-run double down the right-field line, eventually coming around to score on a Jake Redding RBI groundout. The Rainbow Warriors added two more in the second to stretch the lead to 6-0, capitalizing on a wild pitch and a Watanabe bases-loaded walk.
 
The 'Bows blew the game open in the late stages, highlighted by a seven-run fifth inning. During that decisive frame, Hawai'i sent 12 batters to the plate, scoring on RBI knocks from Mana Lau Kong and Redding while capitalizing on a hit by pitch, passed ball and an error. For the game, the Rainbow Warriors drew six walks and were hit by four pitches, while taking advantage of five Chaminade errors.
 
Five UH pitchers combined to shut out the Silverswords, taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning. Saul Soto started the contest and went 1.1 innings, but it was Dylan Waite (1-0) who earned the win with 2.2 innings of hitless relief. Zacary Tenn, Caleb Okada and Koen Barton each pitched one shutout inning out of the bullpen to close things out.
 
Watanabe finished the night as the primary catalyst, driving in six runs despite recording only one hit. Lau Kong chipped in with his second career multi-hit performance while Redding delivered his third multi-RBI game.  
 
The Rainbow Warriors hit the road for the first time when they open a six-game Big West road trip at Long Beach State Friday at 3:05 p.m. HT.
