Men’s Volleyball Sweeps BYU In Series Rematch

HONOLULU – The third-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team pulled out the brooms with a straight-set win over sixth-ranked BYU, Friday, in the second of two non-conference matches at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. Set scores were 25-18, 25-21, 25-16.
 
The Rainbow Warriors (14-1) played flawlessly throughout the match to extend their win streak to 11 and the series win streak over the Cougars to six dating back to 2020.
 
UH hit .446 in the match with six aces and nine team blocks. The Warriors did not allow a single ace to the Cougars (13-4), who hit .183. Louis Sakanoko finished with a match-high 15 kills, hitting .400 while Adrien Roure added 11 kills, hitting .500. Kainoa Wade had nine kills, hitting .467 with three blocks.
 
Setter Tread Rosenthal tallied 32 assists and directed an offense that topped .400 for the 11th time this season. Rosenthal served four aces, all in the second set. Trevell Jordan posted four kills and five blocks while Quintin Greenidge had a match-high 11 digs.
 
Trevor Herget led the Cougars with 10 kills.
 
UH jumped out to a 15-9 lead in the opening set after an 8-3 run capped by consecutive kills by Sakanoko. The Warriors went on to hit .500 in the frame with Wade leading the way with five kills.
 
Hawai'i had an early lead in Set 2 after a pair of aces by Rosenthal before BYU grabbed the lead at 11-10. UH retook the lead at 18-17 after Rosenthal's third ace of the set and his fourth ace made it 20-17. The Warriors closed out the set with a kill and ace by Roure on consecutive points.
 
UH blew open Set 3 with an 8-1 run for an 18-12 advantage which included five straight points behind the serving of Finn Kearney. Sakanoko was unstoppable in the set, leading all attackers with eight kills.
 
The Warriors are back in action next week for a two-match series against Pepperdine, March 5 and 7 at Bankoh Arena.
