Baseball Dominates Ball State in Game Two of Series

HONOLULU – Right-hander Hekili Robello worked seven innings and a balanced offensive attack led the Hawai'i baseball team to a dominant 12-0 win over Ball State in game two of the weekend series Friday night.

Robello turned in another strong outing on the mound, earning his third win in as many starts. He struck out eight and allowed no runs over a career-high seven innings of work, yielding only two hits and two walks in a composed, efficient outing.

Ben Zeigler-Namoa stayed scorching hot at the plate, following up his homer Thursday night with another long ball. The UH first baseman crushed a three-run shot in the eighth inning, powering a six-RBI day. It marked the 12th home run of his UH career.

Hawai'i put a run on the board in the first when an Elijah Ickes sacrifice fly to right field brought home Kamana Nahaku.

The Rainbow Warriors offense blew the game open with an eight-run fourth inning, sending 13 batters to the plate. Ickes led off with a triple to right center followed by a Jake Redding walk. Draven Nushida started the two-out rally, plating both runners with a single up the middle. Mana Lau Kong earned his first collegiate hit and RBI with a single to center, scoring Nushida to make it 4-0 Hawai'i.

UH added to their total with the bases loaded when Nahaku drew a bases-loaded walk. In Zeigler-Namoa's second at-bat of the inning he cleared the bases with a three-run double and later scored on Ickes' second hit of the inning, marking an eight-run two-out rally with Hawai'i leading 9-0.

Zeigler-Namoa's three-run shot in the eighth capped the 'Bows' night in a dominant 12-0 win.

Ickes finished the game 3-for-4 and knocked in two, Lau Kong earned his first two hits on singles to center, Nushida brought in two as well. Zeigler-Namoa's RBI total is up to 12 on the season and eight in this series alone.

UH's starting pitchers have worked a combined 15.1 innings and allowed just one unearned run on four hits with 20 strikeouts and four walks. Robello's effort followed Isaiah Magdaleno's 12 strikeouts over 8.1 innings in the series opener. On the season, the pair have combined for 49 strikeouts over 38.1 innings with a 1.88 ERA.

Hawai'i will look to take the series Saturday with a 6:35 p.m. start at Les Murakami Stadium. Freshman Brody Martin-Grudzielanek will be on the mound for the 'Bows, looking for his first win of the season.

Saturday's game is sold out, however fans can still purchase resale tickets on SeatGeek HERE. Standing room tickets will also be available at the door and UH Mānoa students can get in for free with their student ID.
