STANFORD, Calif. – In a display of offensive prowess, the third-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball rolled past No. 18 Stanford in straight sets, Friday in the first of two non-conference matches at Maples Pavilion. Set scores were 25-16, 25-15, 25-17.
The Rainbow Warriors (11-1), who extended their win streak to eight, hit .515 for the match with only seven attack errors in 66 attempts while also serving eight aces. UH's prolific offense was on full display in Set 2 as the team hit .714 with 15 kills in 21 errorless attempts and three aces.
Kainoa Wade made his sixth straight start at opposite and finished with a match-high 12 kills, hitting .588 with one ace.
Adrien Roure added 11 kills, hitting at a .667 clip with a team-high three aces while
Louis Sakanoko added nine kills, six digs and one ace.
Setter
Tread Rosenthal directed the offense and tallied 38 assists, two aces and two blocks.
Quintin Greenidge had a team-high seven digs.
Luke McFall led the Cardinal (3-7) with six kills, hitting .667 with two aces.
UH avenged a loss to Cardinal in the teams' last meeting in Honolulu last season, which snapped the Warriors' 12-match win streak in the series. Hawai'i has now won the last five meetings in Stanford, Calif.
Hawai'i jumped out to big leads in each set – 6-2 in Set 1, 11-3 in Set 2, and 11-5 in Set 3. After trailing by six in Set 3, the Cardinal pulled within two at 17-15 but the Warriors scored eight of the final 10 sets to close out the match.
The teams play again on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. PT at Maples Pavilion.
