Three 'Bows Earn Big West Women's Volleyball Honors

HONOLULU — A day after capturing  the OUTRIGGER Invitational championship, the University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team claimed three of the Big West's weekly awards on Monday.
 
Rainbow Wahine outside hitter Cha'lei Reid was voted the conference's Offensive Player of the Week, middle blocker Bri Gunderson earned the Defensive Player of the Week award and Adrianna Arquette picked up the Setter of the Week honor. The awards were the first Big West honors for all three 'Bows.
 
Reid put away 50 kills and served up 10 aces over three matches and was voted the OUTRIGGER Invitational's Most Valuable Player. The freshman opened the tournament by putting away 26 kills against San Jose State and finished the weekend averaging 4.55 kills per set. She contributed six aces against St. John's on Sunday to post the program's highest individual total since 2017. She now leads the Big West with 15 aces (0.68 per set). In all, she averaged 5.68 points per set during the tournament.
 
Gunderson moved into the Big West lead by posting 18 blocks over three matches in the OUTRIGGER Invitational. The senior averaged 1.64 blocks per set and earned a spot on the All-Tournament team. Gunderson posted a season-high nine blocks, including two solo, in a sweep of Utah Valley. She also hit .489 and delivered seven aces in the tournament. Gunderson leads the Big West with 30 total blocks and 1.43 blocks per set.
 
Arquette averaged 10.27 assists per set and led the 'Bows to a combined .295 attack percentage in back-to-back sweeps of Utah Valley and St. John's. The sophomore tied her season high with 49 assists in the five-set opener against San Jose State and had 14 digs to record her second double-double of the season. She then directed an attack that hit a season-best .330 in the sweep of Utah Valley. Arquette was also in on six blocks and had five aces in the tournament. She ranks second in the Big West with 9.36 assists per set.
 
The Rainbow Wahine (2-4) close out their season-opening homestand with a two-match series with Portland starting Thursday at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
