HONOLULU – The Hawai'i women's cross country team opened the 2025 season in victorious fashion, taking the team title at the Big Wave Invitational Friday morning at Kapi'olani Park.
The Rainbow Wahine took home the team title at the Big Wave for the fifth consecutive year, finishing with a team score of 25 points to best runner-up Pacific by 12 points. Sophomore and last year's Big West Freshman of the Year
Lucy Milliner won the individual title with a 4k time of 13:57.3 as UH runners claimed six of the top 10 spots.
Milliner went to the front of the pack from the start and was neck-and-neck with Pacific's Angelina Lione until the final 1,000 meters of the race. From there, Milliner was able to create a little bit of separation and edged out Lione by .80 seconds.
Emilie Kirk Langschwager was the second Hawai'i finisher and placed third overall with a time of 14:29.0 while
Zola O'Donnell followed close behind in fourth with a mark of 14:36.4. UH also claimed the No. 8-10 spots with
Lucy Becker pushing across the line in 15:00.0 followed by a pair of runners making their Hawai'i debuts in
Harriet Greentree (15:01.0) and
Sophie Bekins (15:03.0).
The race marked the first time that the Rainbow Wahine have hosted the Big Wave Invitational at Kapi'olani Park. UH will also host the Big West Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships in the same location on Oct. 31.
Up next, Hawai'i will travel to The Master's University Invitational, Sept. 20 in Santa Clarita, Calif.
