HONOLULU – The Hawai'i women's cross country team opens its 2025 season Friday morning when it hosts the annual Big Wave Invitational at Kapi'olani Park.
The meet will begin with a men's 6k race at 7:15 a.m. followed by the Rainbow Wahine competing in the women's 4k race starting at 8 a.m. Admission is free and open to the public, and the race start and finish lines will be located near the parking lot along Pākī Ave.

UH is coming off of a 2024 season in which it matched its best finish since joining the Big West in 2012, coming in fifth at last season's Big West Championship meet. The Rainbow Wahine return eight student-athletes from last season's team, including seven who competed in last season's conference championship meet.
The 2024 Big West Freshman of the Year
Lucy Milliner returns for her sophomore year after posting the best finish by a UH runner at the conference championships since 2016. Additionally,
Emilie Kirk Langschwager comes back for her junior season after finishing as the top Hawai'i runner at three meets in 2024, including the NCAA West Regional.
Other key returnees include
Zola O'Donnell,
Kira Moe,
Lucy Becker and
Gemma Warman, all of whom placed in the Rainbow Wahine top five in at least one meet last year. Hawai'i also welcomes in a group of four newcomers in graduate transfers from Wash. U (St. Louis)
Sophie Bekins and
Izzy Gorton, and freshmen
Harriet Greentree and
Reece Trice.
Following this weekend's meet the Rainbow Wahine will have a week off before heading to The Master's University Invitational, Sept. 20 in Santa Clarita, Calif.
