WAIPAHU, O'ahu – For the fourth consecutive match, the Hawai'i soccer team played to a draw in a 0-0 tie against UC Santa Barbara Sunday at Waipi'o Soccer Stadium.
It's also the third straight scoreless draw that the Rainbow Wahine have played to and the sixth tie of the season, which extends the program record for ties in a single season.
The 'Bows have gone 310 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal dating back to the 49:45 mark of the Eastern Washington match on Sept. 11. At the same time, however, UH has not scored in 311 straight minutes going back to the 48:32 mark of that EWU match.
Kennedy Justin and
Brianna Chirpich combined on the shutout, with the two keepers splitting the match and playing 45 minutes each. Justin got the start and recorded a save while Chirpich entered after halftime and made two stops.
The two teams went back-and-forth throughout the first half. The 'Bows did a solid job defensively limiting UCSB chances in the first 45 minutes, allowing just three shot attempts with
Kennedy Justin making one save.
Amber Gilbert gave Hawai'i its best scoring opportunity of the opening half, firing off a shot from just inside the box that went off the crossbar in the 25th minute.
Gilbert once again gave UH one of its best looks at goal early in the second half, making a run off a
Krista Peterson through ball before firing a shot just off target to the right of goal. On the defensive end, UH fought off five corner kick opportunities by the Gauchos while recorded the save on two of UCSB's seven second half shot attempts.
The Rainbow Wahine head back on the road to continue Big West play at Cal State Fullerton Thursday at 3 p.m. HT (ESPN+).
