FULLERTON, Calif. – The Hawai'i soccer team equalized after falling behind early, but ultimately fell at unbeaten Cal State Fullerton, 2-1, to open the road trip Thursday night.
The loss ended the Rainbow Wahine's program-record streak of four consecutive draws that dated back to Sept. 11, and also extended the team's winless stretch to six matches going back to Sept. 7.
The Titans (9-0-2, 2-0-1 Big West) got on the board in the 15th minute to go up 1-0 and ended UH's shutout streak at 324 minutes without surrendering a goal in the process. CSF's Kayalilly Penn found the back of the net off a counter attack to hand the 'Bows their first deficit since a Sept. 7 match at Saint Mary's.
The Rainbow Wahine (2-5-6, 0-1-2, Big West) answered back with the equalizer in the 56th minute to snap their scoreless streak at 367 minutes.
Nalani Damacion registered her first goal of the year off a beautiful give-and-go with
Amber Gilbert on the move into the UH final third to knot things up at one.
Fullerton would respond immediately to reclaim the lead just over a minute later when Cayla Oliveira struck at the 57:03 mark to put the Titans ahead for good.
Damacion's goal was the eighth of her career and first that wasn't a game-winner, after all seven of her goals a year ago put UH ahead in wins. The 'Bows also put away just the fourth goal scored all season against the Titans, while snapping their four-match shutout streak.
The Rainbow Wahine close out the road trip Sunday at UC Riverside with kickoff set for 4 p.m. HT (ESPN+).
