SAN DIEGO – For the second straight match the Hawai'i women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw, picking up another result on the road in a nonconference match at San Diego State Sunday.
Goalkeepers
Brianna Chirpich and
Kennedy Justin combined on UH's fourth shutout of the season, with Chirpich playing the first half and making one save and Justin taking the closing 45 minutes while recording two stops.
It's the first time in program history that the Rainbow Wahine have played to back-to-back 0-0 draws after Thursday's result in the conference opener at Long Beach State. UH's five ties on the season is a new single-season program record while the three consecutive draws marks the longest streak of ties in school history.
The two teams were locked in a scoreless battle at the half, with the Rainbow Wahine holding a 5-3 shot advantage through the first 45 minutes. None of UH's shot attempts came on frame, however the 'Bows created a handful of good looks at goal while having three corner kick opportunities.
Amber Gilbert gave Hawai'i its best look at goal of the day in the 55th minute, getting a one-on-one opportunity off Justin's punt and
Tatum Porter's redirect, however, SDSU keeper Kailey Carlen came up with a diving save to keep it scoreless.
Justin denied the Aztecs on their best look at the net in the 79th minute, coming up with a right-footed kick save as she was falling to the ground to keep it knotted up at zeroes. UH ended the match out-shooting San Diego State 13-9, while owning a 5-3 advantage on corner kicks.
The Rainbow Wahine return home to continue Big West play with a matchup against last year's conference tournament champion UC Santa Barbara on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Waipi'o Soccer Stadium.
