HONOLULU – Sitting in third place in the Big West at the midway point of the season, Hawai'i heads into a key series at Big West unbeaten Cal Poly Friday through Sunday.
The Rainbow Warriors have an opportunity to climb back up the RPI when they take on the Mustangs who head into the weekend with an RPI of 17. Cal Poly leads the all-time series between the schools, 31-16, however UH has won the series each of the last two years.

Hawai'i has made a habit of winning the final three innings throughout its 23-8 start to the season. The Rainbow Warriors are outscoring teams 72-41 in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, highlighted by a 26-6 advantage in the ninth inning. Additionally, UH is 16-0 when leading after the sixth inning and has won seven games when tied or trailing heading into the final three frames.

RAISING THE STANDARD

Rich Hill has raised the standard of the program since arriving in 2022. The Rainbow Warriors have turned into one of the most successful programs in the west, owning the sixth best record among teams in the region over the last four seasons. The Rainbow Warriors have also posted three consecutive winning seasons under Hill - their first three over .500 finishes since joining the Big West in 2012. UH has finished in the top five of the conference each of the last three seasons, including third-place finishes in 2022 and 2024.

TROPICAL SWARM
After leading the nation in ERA in 2024, the Rainbow Warrior pitching staff has again positioned themselves as one of the elite groups nationally. UH is 13th in ERA (3.73), 10th in WHIP (1.19) and eighth in BB allowed/9 innings (3.13). UH is also 14th in K/BB ratio (2.81) and 22nd in opponent batting average (.228).
Liam O'Brien and
Isaiah Magdaleno each lead the nation in a major pitching category, with O'Brien ranking first in hits allowed per nine innings (3.31) and opponent BA (.117) and Magdaleno first in WHIP (0.71).
MIURA HEATING UP

Matthew Miura has been on a tear over the last three weeks. Miura is hitting .513 (20-for-39) over the last 12 games with 14 runs scored and five doubles. He started off that stretch by reaching base in 15 of his 16 plate appearances against UC Davis, including 13 in a row to begin the series. Miura is now hitting .345 on the season and leads the Big West with 29 walks while sitting in a tie for sixth in the conference in on-base percentage (.479).
