LA QUINTA, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team is tied for seventh place following the opening round of the 2025 Big West Championship Sunday at the La Quinta Country Club.
The Rainbow Warriors carded a 7-over 295 and is tied with UC San Diego and CSUN. Cal State Fullerton has the lead after Round 1 at 9-under 279 followed by Long Beach State (281), Idaho (285), UC Davis and UC Irvine (290).
Anson Cabello was the lone UH golfer in red numbers after a 1-under 71, which is tied for eighth. Only 10 golfers among the field of 60 posted rounds under par.
James Whitworth is 2-over 74 and tied for 28
th while
Josh Hayashida and
Dane Watanabe each shot 3-over 75 and are tied for 38
th. Rounding out the UH contingent is
Tyler Ogawa who is 4-over 76 and tied for 46
th.
Long Beach State's Krishnav Chopraa shot a sizzling 9-under 63 and holds a five-stroke lead over Cal State Fullerton's Tegan Andrews and Matthew Schafer (68).
The tournament continues with Round 2 on Tuesday. UH will be paried with UC San Diego and CSUN with tee times starting at 8:50 a.m. PT.
