SAN DIEGO, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i's No. 3 seeded women's tennis team swept the No. 10 seed, UC Riverside, 4-0 on Thursday to advance to the second round of the Big West Women's Tennis Championship at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif..
 
The Rainbow Wahine opened the first round match by winning the doubles point by notching victories on the No. 3 and No. 1 courts. UH's No. 3 duo of Hannah Galindo and Makeilah Nepomuceno took down UC Riverside's Sam Condevillamar and Chloe Vu, 6-3. On the No. 1 court, Sheena Masuda and Peppi Ramstedt held off UCR's Kei Kato and Ramey Yu by a break to capture the first point, 6-4.
 
In singles, Hawai'i shuffled their lineup, but that did not slow the 'Bows down a bit. UH took care of business quickly. UH's No. 5 Joelle Lanz led things off with a near shutout over the Highlanders' Vu, 6-1, 6-1, while on the No. 2 court, UH's Ramsted cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over UCR's Niki Shahbazi. Hawai'i senior Nikola Homolkova then clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Yu. Homolkova played at No. 1 for the first time since the 2023 season.
 
With the win, Hawai'i advances to play #6 seed CSUN in the Big West Championship Second Round. The Matadors edged out No. 7 seed Cal State Fullerton, 4-3 on Thursday. The 'Bows and Matadors will square off in their Second Round match beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, April 25 at the Barnes Tennis Center.
