IRVINE, Calif. – The Hawai'i baseball team dropped game two of the series at No. 13 UC Irvine Friday, 4-0, as Anteater pitcher Trevor Hansen spun a complete-game shutout.
The Rainbow Warriors were dealt their third consecutive series loss and were shut out for the first time since being blanked by the Anteaters on May 6, 2023. UH has managed just one run on 11 hits over the two games in the series.
Hansen kept the Hawai'i bats off balance all game, fanning nine batters while scattering three hits and two walks. The 'Bows failed to put multiple runners on base in any inning while no runner reached second base.
The Anteaters got on the board first with a pair of runs off the UH bullpen, which was forced into action early after starter
Sebastian Gonzalez pitched just one inning after being struck by a line drive in the opening frame. Blake Penso delivered a two-run double in the second to make it 2-0.
UCI doubled its lead with two more runs in the sixth, scoring on a sacrifice fly and a passed ball to make it 4-0.
The Hawai'i pitching staff again turned in a strong effort against the top offense in the Big West.
Max Jones turned in two hitless innings of relief while
Zacary Tenn gave up just a run on a hit over 2.1 frames out of the bullpen.
Jimmy Urban went the next 1.1 innings and allowed just an unearned run while
Anthony Andrews threw the final 1.1 frames and did not allow a hit.
The Rainbow Warriors wrap-up the series against the Anteaters Saturday at 10 a.m. HT.
