HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team kicked off its spring exhibition tour with the first of two matches against Arizona State, Monday at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. The Rainbow Wahine lost in four sets 23-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-17.
UH was led by transfer Lois Hansen and freshman
Cha'lei Reid, who each finished with a team-high eight kills in both of their debuts for the Rainbow Wahine. Reid also added two blocks while Hansen had four digs and one block.
The Sun Devils, who finished 30-3 and were Big 12 champions last season, was led by Bailey Miller's match-high 16 kills on .424 hitting. Kiylah Presley added eight kills and Ella Lomigora had seven kills.
A total of 12 Rainbow Wahine saw action in the match, including setters
Adrianna Arquette and
Audrey Hollis. Arquette finished with 22 assists, three aces, and nine digs and Hollis had nine assists and six digs.
Reid helped propel the Rainbow Wahine to a Set 1 win with six kills in 13 attempts. She had kills on the final four points of the set, including the set winner as UH took it 25-23.
In Set 2, the Sun Devils scored six straight during an 8-1 run to help close out the frame. ASU again used a late run to grab Set 3 scoring five straight during an 8-1 run to close it out.
The Devils used a 6-1 run midway through the fourth for a 19-11 lead to seize control of the set.
The teams play again on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., at SimpliFi Arena.
