IRVINE, Calif.—University of Hawai'i men's tennis player
Azuma Visaya earned his third Big West Player of the Week award after a clutch three set win that clinched UH's first dual match victory of the season under head coach
Hendrik Bode.
With the match vs. North Dakota tied at 3-3, the decision hinged on the No. 1 match between Visaya and Leandro Zgraggen. Visaya cruised in the first set but faltered in the second falling by a break. Things were even in the third set and it all came down to a tie-breaker where Visaya edged out Zgraggen for his fourth-straight singles win, 6-2, 5-7, 7-6(4). Four of Visaya's five matches have ended in a tie-breaker situation with the Honolulu-native winning four of those matches.
In doubles, Visaya and partner
Tianhao Hou held off UND's Arge-Kevin Koua and Zgraggen to help capture the doubles point, 6-4.
Overall, Visaya is 5-3 in singles and 2-3 in doubles. Visaya, a junior from Honolulu, O'ahu, rose up the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings to No. 48 on Wednesday.
