SAN DIEGO – The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (4-3, 2-0 Big West) put up a good fight, but fell short to #29 San Diego, 4-1 on Friday afternoon at the Hogan Tennis Center. UH is now 1-1 on their first mainland roadtrip this season.
The Toreros captured the doubles point by winning on courts No. 2 and 3 to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Rainbow Wahine wouldn't go down without a fight in singles. On the No. 2 court, Ana Vilcek captured UH's lone victory defeating Kristian Nordikyan by a break in both sets, 6-4, 7-5. Vilcek has earned her third win in singles on the season. UH's Emma Forgac fought hard, but fell in three sets to Gabby Gregg, 6-4, 2-6, 3-6. Nikola Homolkova and Sheena Masuda were both winning in the third sets of their matches when the match was clinched.
UH concludes their roadtrip at San Diego State on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 10:00 a.m. HT. The match will be played at the Aztec Tennis Center.
