HONOLULU – The Hawai'i baseball team saw its nation-leading overall and home winning streaks come to an end Friday in an 11-4 loss to Wichita State.
The Rainbow Warriors dropped a game at Les Murakami Stadium for the first time since April 20 of last year – a span of 306 days between home losses. UH also had its 10-game winning streak that dated back to last year snapped.
The Shockers struck early and often to build a 5-0 lead. Wichita State scored single runs in the second, third and fifth innings while plating two in the fourth all off UH starter
Itsuki Takemoto.
UH finally broke through with a pair of runs in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 5-2 and chase Wichita State starter Brady Hamilton. After Hawai'i loaded the bases with no outs,
Kamana Nahaku hit a bouncer up the middle that Shocker shortstop Camden Johnson fielded and got one out on, before throwing it away at first to allow two runs to cross.
Wichita State came right back with a three-run homer in the seventh to break things back open, taking a six-run lead.
Ben Zeigler-Namoa led the way offensively going 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored while
Shunsuke Sakaino and
Xaige Lancaster each finished 2-for-4.
The Rainbow Warriors and Shockers continue their series Saturday at Les Murakami Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
