PHOENIX – The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team (2-7) secured its second win of the season holding off Montana St., 4-3. Head coach Henddrik Bode recorded his first ever UH road win on Sunday morning at the GCU Tennis Facility.
The Rainbow Warriors captured the doubles point, winning the first two matches. UH's No. 1 duo of Azuma Visaya and Tianhao Hou defeated MSU's Dmitry Bezborodov and Harrison Janes, 6-2. On the No. 3 court, Hawai'i's Sohta Urano and Andy Hernandez sealed the point with a convincing victory over Camille Chantron and Andre Stewart, 6-2.
In singles, both teams went back and forth in a tight battle but UH's No. 1-3 were able to capture the victory for the 'Bows. UH's No. 1 Visaya defeated Bezborodov in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. Visaya now has five wins at the No. 1 spot in singles on the season. Quinn Snyder continues his hot streak and remains undefeated in singles play after defeating Bobcats' Eddie Biss, 6-0, 7-6. UH's No. 3 Karl Collins clinched the win holding off MSU's Andre Stewart. Collins fell in the first set but pulled away easily winning the next two sets, 4-6, 6-0, 6-1. Collins went undefeated for the 'Bows on the road trip going 2-0 in singles play.
The Rainbow Warriors will head back home following their first roadtrip of the season. They will take on Eastern Washington on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 4:00 p.m. HT at the UH Tennis Complex.
