Warriors Finish Second, Wahine Finish Third at Swim & Dive Big West Championships

HOUSTON — The University of Hawai'i men's and women's swim and dive teams set multiple Big West records on the final day of the Big West Championships at the CRWC Natatorium in Houston. The Rainbow Warriors finished in second place with a score of 787 and the Rainbow Wahine finished in third place finishing with a score of 715.

Karol Ostrowski set a fourth Big West record with his performance in the 100 free, while freshman Macie Wheeler is the first Rainbow Wahine to sweep all three diving events in a single conference championship since 2016.

Ostrowski claimed the 100 free championship after setting another Big West record with a time of 42.51. Ostrowski has contributed to all four of UH's record-breaking performances this week, setting new Big West records in the 50 free, 100 free and as a member of the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay teams. Ostrowski's 100 free performance also helped him secure his third NCAA B-cut qualifying time this week which include performances in the 50 free, 100 free and the 100 back.

The Rainbow Wahine 400 free relay A-team of Zofia Tymisnka, Holly Nelson, Arianna Sakellaris and Alexia Kovaluk broke the Big West record and earned gold with a time of 3:20.04. On the men's side, the 400 relay A-team of Ostrowski, Finn Brophy, Dietrich Meyer and Regan Richardson also set a new Big West record and secured gold with a mark of 2:52.26

Freshman Macie Wheeler completed a perfect week after earning gold in the platform dive with a score of 227.70. Wheeler is the first Rainbow Wahine to be crowned conference champion in all three diving events — 1-meter, 3-meter and platform — in a single season since Aimee Harrison at the 2016 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships.

Juan Esteban Ramirez Tamayo claimed his second gold winning the platform dive with the fourth highest score in UH history at 376.90. Brandon Shepherd finished in third with a mark of 272.45.

Nelson earned silver in the 100 free with a mark of 49.40. Tyminska finished third in the 200 breast with a time of 2:12.35, achieving an NCAA B-cut qualifying time.
