LĪHU'E, Kaua'i – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team completed the 48
th John A. Burns Intercollegiate with a final round 291 Saturday at Ocean Course at Hokuala.
The host Rainbow Warriors finished in 16
th place with an 871 total. No. 16 Utah and No. 41 UNLV shared the team title at 818 with the Rebels carding after a final round 266 to move up two spots. The individual title was also shared between a pair of Utah and UNLV golfers as the Utes' Gabriel Palacios and the Rebels' Zach Little each shot 11-under 199, one stroke ahead of Utah's Sergio Jimenez.
Hawai'i played a man down for much of the round after
Josh Hayashida was forced to withdraw due to injury on his front nine. Sophomore
Dane Watanabe posted even par 70 to conclude the tournament at 6-over 216 and a tie for 51
st place.
Anson Cabello was one stroke back at 7-over 217 after a final round 1-over 71 to tie for 58
th place.
Also competing for UH were
Tyler Ogawa (73=220; t-70
th) and
James Whitworth (77=221; t-74
th).
Garrett Takeuchi – competing as an individual – posted the best round by a UH golfer on Saturday with a 1-under 69 to finish with a 225 total and tie for 89
th place.
Nathan Szpakowicz also competed as an individual and tied for 79
th at 222.
The 'Bows will next compete in the RE Lamkin Invitational, March 10-11 in San Diego, Calif.
