UH Letterwinners Club Recognizes Former Football Player Eugene Price

HONOLULU – Former University of Hawai'i football player Eugene Price is the recipient of the 2024 Kāne Fernandez Community Service Award, presented by the UH Letterwinners Club.

Price received his award during halftime of the men's basketball game, Thursday, Feb. 13 at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.

A three-year letterman from 1978-80, Price was a two-time Warrior Club honoree, given to players who give winning performances for the majority of the season. In addition, he was named the Most Valuable Offensive Scout in 1977.

Price has been a member of the Metropolitan Honolulu Rotary Club for over 10 years and currently serves as its President Elect. As a community service-oriented organization, Price has spent much of his spare time as a volunteer on a variety of projects such as repairing homes through the Gregory House Program, adding vinyl to beautify several elementary schools, beach cleanups, to name a few.

Price is also a volunteer board member of the Hawai'i Sports Hall of Fame, currently serving as its President. Each year, the organization honors various world-class athletes at their annual induction banquet.

A valuable volunteer board member of the Letterwinners Club, Price is currently working on the project to revive and upgrade the memorabilia showcase displays in the SimpliFi Arena and the Les Murakami Stadium.

The UHLWC presents the award annually to a past letterwinner who has volunteered unselfishly to further advance the community. The award is named for the late Kāne Fernandez, chairman and chief executive office of Fernandez Entertainment, who passed away in 2001 and is one of the original members of the UHLWC.

The UH Letterwinners Club is comprised of former student-athletes of the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa.
