HONOLULU—Pinch hitter Millie Fidge drilled a shot down the third baseline to drive in the tying and winning run in a walk-off win over Utah Tech, 3-2 on Day Two of the Spring Fling Tournament. UH starter
Addison Kostrencichon earned the complete game win to improve to 3-1 on Friday night at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Hawai'i improved to 6-1 for its best start since 2012 when the Rainbow Wahine started the season 21-0.
Kostrencich allowed two runs on eight hits with a pair of walks and a strikeout in seven innings of work.
The Trailblazers crossed the plate first to take a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI single to left by Gabi Giroux that scored Baylee Howley.
With two outs and runners on first and second,
Liliana Thomas laced a single left to drive in Kayara Tuiloma from second to knot the score at 1-1.
In the top of the sixth, Utah Tech see-sawed back into the lead on an RBI single by Marisa Rubio that scored Kinley Pappas for a 2-1 lead.
The Hawai'i defense retired the Trailblazers in order in the top of the seventh to set the stage for UH's second-straight come-from-behind win in as many days.
Carys Murakami led off the bottom of the seventh with a double down the rightfield line. After a strikeout,
Kayara-Leigh Tuiloma lifted a looper to left centerfield that was dropped by the centerfielder to allow the runners to advance to second and third.
Izabella Martinez was then intentionally walked to load the bases. Then, with a 1-2 count Fidge drilled a single past a diving third baseman as Murakami and Tuiloma both scored easily for the win.
Trailblazer starter Sauren Garton allowed three runs on just three hits with five walks and five strikeouts.
The Spring Fling Tournament continues with four games on Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m. HT. Hawai'i will play the final game slated to start at 5:30 p.m. HT against Sacramento State.
