LĪHU'E, Kaua'i – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team completed the first round of the 48
th John A. Burns Intercollegiate with a 299 total Thursday at the Ocean Course at Hokuala.
One of the 17 teams shot under par on the day while only 14 of the 102 golfers posted red numbers. The tournament, which is being played at Hokuala for the fourth consecutive year, is celebrating its 48
th year and is the seventh-longest men's tournament in the country.
The host Rainbow Warriors, who are tied for 16
th place, was led by sophomore
Anson Cabello, who shot 1-over 71 and is tied for 24
th place. Junior
James Whitworth is tied for 55
th place at 4-over 74 while sophomore
Dane Watanabe is tied for 75
th at 6-over 76.
Senior
Tyler Ogawa rounded out the UH contingent at 8-over 78 and tie for 89
th. Junior
Josh Hayashida was forced to withdraw due to injury.
Sixteenth-ranked Utah is atop the team leaderboard at 7-under 273 followed by No. 10 Illinois and No. 41 UNLV at even par 280. Missouri's Brock Snyder and Illinois' Jackson Buchanan share the clubhouse lead at 4-under 66.
