HOUSTON — The University of Hawai'i men's and women's swim and dive teams opened the 2025 Big West Championships with two victories, highlighted by a record-breaking performance in the men's 200 medley relay on the opening day at the CRWC Natatorium in Houston, Texas.
The Rainbow Warrior 200 medley relay A team of Karol Ostrowski, Tomer Goldfaden, Grant Stoddard and Dietrich Meyer shattered both the Big West and Hawai'i record with a gold-medal time of 1:23.64. Ostrowski set the tone posting a mark of 21.00 in the 50 back as the lead-off, while Meyer sealed the victory with a time of 19.03 in the 50 free as the anchor leg to help secure first place and both records.
Rainbow Warriors
Juan Esteban Ramirez Tamayo and
Brandon Shepherd claimed the top two spots of the 1-meter dive finals. Tamayo claimed first place posting a mark of 334.05 followed by Shepherd in second with a score of 296.10.
The Rainbow Wahine 200 medley relay A squad comprised of
Alexa Ozment,
Mandolin Nguyen,
Holly Nelson and
Zofia Tyminska finished as runner-up with a time of 1:38.01.
The men's 800 free relay A team of Ostrowski,
Adam Zdybel,
Jordan Meacham and
Victor Dagenais also earned silver after posting a mark of 1:35.74.
The women's 800 free relay A team of
Catherine Belyakov,
Alexia Kovaluk, Mia Blazevska Eminova and
Arianna Sakellaris earned bronze with a mark of 7:19.45. Belyakov's 200 free lead-off led came in at 1:47.81 is the ninth-fastest mark in UH history.
The Rainbow Warriors lead after day one with 111 points while the Rainbow Wahine are in second with 66 points.
