HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i coed and women's sailing teams have unveiled a packed spring schedule, highlighted by multiple home regattas and an early January start on the mainland.
The coed squad will get off to an early start to the year, opening its spring campaign this week, Jan. 3-4 in Long Beach, Calif., for the Rosebowl Regatta. The 'Bows will look to improve on their 12th place finish when they last appeared in the event in 2023.
From there, they will return home and join the women's team in their season premiere, as UH is set to compete in the annual Peter Wenner Rainbow Regatta. The Rainbow Sailors will aim to make it a full decade of dominance in Keʻehi Lagoon on Jan. 17-18, having claimed the title nine straight years.
The Hawai'i Fleet Race Invite, set for March 28–29, will be the coed team's second home regatta of the season and their first time hosting two events in the same year since 2023.
After staying on the West Coast throughout the spring, they will close out their season back where they started, sailing in the PCCSC Fleet Race Championship on April 18-19 in Long Beach.
The Rainbow Wahine will work contrariwise, traveling to the East Coast twice in the spring. UH will travel to San Diego, Washington State, and a familiar Redwood City, before closing out their season with a pair of regattas in Florida and Maryland.
The Wahine will also host the Hawai'i Yacht Racing Association Women's Regatta for the first time, held Feb. 1.
ICSA Hall of Fame inductee and Head Coach Andy Johnson, who is continuing his 36th season at the helm, will look to lead both his teams back to the ICSA National Championships. The women, who won the 2001 national title, have made four straight appearances and 22 of 28 overall in the fleet race. The coed team, which captured the 2004 national title, has earned a berth in two of the last four seasons. This year's fleet race championship will be hosted in May by the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg, Fla.
