Women's Volleyball Hosts Matadors, Roadrunners

HONOLULU — Following a split on the road, the University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team returns to Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center for a two-match homestand starting Friday, Nov. 7 against CSUN. The Rainbow Wahine then close the weekend against CSU Bakersfield on Sunday, Nov. 9 with first serve set for 4 p.m.
 
The Rainbow Wahine completed a run of five road matches in a six-match stretch with a loss at UC Davis followed by a four-set win at UC Riverside last Saturday to move into a tie with UC Irvine for sixth place in the Big West standings.

CSUN entered the week a game ahead of UH and UC Irvine and the 'Bows will look to avenge a road loss to the Matadors on Oct. 4 in Friday's rematch. UH won the season's first meeting with CSU Bakersfield in four sets on Oct. 3 in Bakersfield.

"OUR TEAM. HAWAI'I'S TEAM." FOOD DRIVEIn an effort to help and make a difference within the state of Hawai'i and on campus, the University of Hawai'i Athletics Department will partner with the Hawai'i Foodbank and the university's Office of the Vice Provost for Student Success, for a three-day food drive centered around UH sporting events to help residents and students in need, who have recently been affected due to the government shutdown. Fans attending any UH event this weekend can drop off nonperishable food items outside Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center at Gate A.

OPENING SERVE
  • UH middle blocker Bri Gunderson posted 28 kills with just three errors to hit a team-high .481 during last week's road trip. The senior was also in on nine blocks and accounted for 4.06 points per set. She also leads the team and ranks fifth in the Big West with 1.10 blocks per set.
  • Outside hitter Cha'lei Reid posted double-figure kills in each of the last three matches and six of the last seven. The freshman continues to lead with team in kills per set (3.38) and ranks third in the Big West with 4.20 points per set.
  • Reid also leads the conference with 36 aces and 0.46 per set. Her current total is the program's highest since Brooke Van Sickle had 38 aces in 2021.
  • As a team, the 'Bows rank first in the Big West with 136 total aces and 1.62 per set. CSUN is next with 130 aces and 1.41 per set.
  • Sophomore libero Victoria Leyva has posted double-figure digs in each of the last six matches and has 17 such performances this season. She's posted 20-plus digs in seven matches this season and ranks fifth in the conference with 4.10 digs per set.
  • UH setter Adrianna Arquette posted two double-doubles last week while averaging 11.25 assists per set. The sophomore has eight double-doubles, including two triple-doubles, this season.
  • Miliana Sylvester continued her efficient hitting in Big West play with a .378 performance last week. The sophomore middle blocker is hitting .354 in conference matches.
  • UH senior Tyla Reese Mane twice set career highs last week with 12 kills at UC Davis and 13 at UC Riverside. The senior also hit a season-best .429 against the Highlanders.
  • Freshman Jaci Miyasaki posted her first two double-digit dig performances of her career last week and has served up eight aces over the last three matches.
  • Senior Morghn Monahan has started the last six matches is averaging 0.62 blocks per set in conference matches.
  • UH is 502-82 all-time in Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center since the facility opened in 1994.

  • CSUN hit .333 to UH's .126 in the first meeting led by Amaris Smith's 12 kills on .478 hitting. Tyla Reese Mane and Miliana Sylvester led UH with eight kills each.
