Rainbow Warriors Host Longtime Rival San Diego State

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i football team will host Mountain West leader San Diego State in a pivotal league match-up, Saturday, Nov. 8 at Clarence T.C. Ching Complex. Kickoff is 6:00 p.m. The Rainbow Warriors (6-3, 3-2 MW) are coming off a 45-38 setback to San José State last week and is tied for the third in the league standings while the Aztecs (7-1, 4-0) won their sixth straight after a 24-7 home win over Wyoming and sits atop the standings as the league's lone undefeated team.
 
The game is officially sold-out but fans can still purchase tickets through the department's resale partner SeatGeek.
 
PROMOTIONS
Hawaiian Airlines is the sponsor for Saturday night's game vs. San Diego State in celebration of Military Night. 
  • Hawaiian Airlines will distribute 1,000 UH/Hawaiian Airlines rally flags.
  • Tailgating lot opens at 2:00 p.m. Fans are invited to join the Warrior Walk, where the team will be dropped off on campus and walk through the tailgating and Pā'ina on the Path area around 3:15 p.m. Our pregame concert with Hawaii's Finest will begin at 4:30 with Kapena performing live.
  • Sam Hesch will lead the crowd before the game in the singing of the national anthem and Hawai'i Pono'i.
  • During the game, UH will recognize and honor veterans in the Wounded Warriors program, many of whom are Purple Heart recipients.

GAME STORYLINES
  • This week's match-up is the 40th meeting between the teams with San Diego State holding a 26-11-2 advantage.
  • The Aztecs have won 11 of the last 13 in the series and 20-of-24. SDSU has won five straight overall after UH won back-to-back games in 2018 and '19.
  • SDSU also has a 13-7-2 advantage in Honolulu and have won the last two.
  • The last four games and six of the last seven have been decided by seven points or less.
  • The game marks the final meeting as conference members as SDSU will move to the Pac-12 following this season. The teams announced a future home-and-home series in 2028 and '29.
  • The teams have met every year since 2012 as members of the Mountain West, which the Aztecs have won 11 of the 13 match-ups. In those 13 meetings, UH has been held to 14 points or less nine times.
  • UH (6-3, 3-2 MW) saw its three-game win streak come to an end after a 45-38 loss at San Josè State last week in San Josè, Calif. The Warriors trailed by 17 at the half but closed to within three in the fourth quarter behind a prolific offense that generated 496 yards of total offense, including 401 through the air.
  • UH has scored 30+ points in each of its last four games. The last time that happened was during the 2016 season. Over the last four games, the UH offense has averaged 39.3 points, 393.0 passing yards, and 503.0 yards of total offense per game while QB Micah Alejado has thrown for 300+ yards and 3+ touchdowns in each of those games.
  • PK Kansei Matsuzawa is tied with Richard Spelman for the program's single-season field goals made record of 21. Matsuzawa's consecutive made streak of 22 is the second-longest current streak nationally behind Kansas' Laith Marjan (23).
  • SDSU (7-1, 4-0) remained undefeated in Mountain West play following a 24-7 home win over Wyoming. The Aztecs held the Cowboys to 185 yards of total offense and forced four turnovers, including three interceptions.
  • SDSU has shut-out three opponents this season and held five to seven points or less. The Aztecs rank No. 2 nationally in scoring defense (10.0 ppg), No. 6 in total defense (246.3 ypg), No. 9 in passing yards allowed (157.8 ypg), and No. 11 in rushing defense (88.5 ypg).
