RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Contributions throughout the lineup and off the bench propelled the University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team to a four-set Big West victory over UC Riverside on Saturday at SRC Arena in Riverside, Calif.
UH freshman
Cha'lei Reid put away 15 kills to lead three Rainbow Wahine attackers in double figures in a 25-19, 14-25, 25-19, 25-19 win. The 'Bows (9-14, 5-7 Big West) earned a split of their road trip and completed a sweep of the regular-season series with the Highlanders (7-15, 3-9).
Tyla Reese Mane set a career best for the second straight match with 13 kills with just one error to hit a season-high .429.
Bri Gunderson added 13 kills on .367 hitting and was in on five blocks.
Miliana Sylvester added seven kills on 11 error-free attempts.
After UC Riverside ran away with the second set,
Ravyn Dash was inserted into the lineup to start Set 3 and the sophomore sparked the 'Bows with eight kills in 15 attempts to hit .467. Freshman Kāhea Moriwaki also delivered key points off the bench with two aces in the decisive fourth set.
Setter
Adrianna Arquette directed the UH offense to a collective .338 hitting percentage and recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 46 assists and 11 digs. Reid also finished with her fourth double-double with 11 digs to go along with her kill total.
Jaci Miyasaki posted double-figure digs for the second straight match with 11 and
Victoria Leyva came up with 10 in her sixth consecutive match in double-digits and 30
th of her career.
Mia Delahoussaye led UC Riverside with a match-high 20 kills on 61 attempts.
UH went up early in the first set and closed with a 5-1 run to take the lead in the match. After an early service run by Miyasaki pushed UH ahead, the 'Bows maintained the lead before UCR rallied to close to 20-18. After a UCR service and attack errors, Reid delivered back-to-back aces to give UH set point at 24-18 and Gunderson closed out the set with a kill in the middle.
UCR answered with an 8-0 run early in the second set to open up a 10-4 lead. Consecutive aces from Misu Nguyen extended the lead to 14-5 and the Highlanders remained in control to even the match at a set apiece.
Dash started Set 3 at outside hitter and promptly delivered four kills without an error to help the 'Bows reclaim the lead in the match. With the set tied 6-6, UH went on a 6-1 run to move ahead and another four-point surge extended the lead to 19-10. Mane gave UH set point at 24-14 and she eventually closed out the set on the 'Bows' sixth attempt at set point.
UCR edged ahead early in the fourth before UH tied it at 9-9 on Moriwaki's first ace of the match. Dash broke a 16-16 tie and Moriwaki scored from the service line again as part of a 4-0 UH burst. The 'Bows held on from there with Reid closing out the win with a kill off the block.
The Rainbow Wahine return to Mānoa to open a two-match homestand on Nov. 7 against CSUN at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. They'll also face CSU Bakersfield on Nov. 9 in a match set for 4 p.m.
