Juan Esteban Ramirez Tamayo captured gold in the 3-meter springboard competition at the CBU Invite on Saturday. All three Rainbow Warriors had strong performances to all finish in the Top 5 on the 3-meter board. The entire Rainbow Wahine once again all finished in the Top 7 on the 1-meter board led by true freshman
Keira Chandler who claimed silver for the second-straight day at the Lancer Aquatics Center on the Cal Baptist campus.
For Ramirez, it marked his fourth career win in the 3-meter event. His total score of 355.60 qualifies him for the NCAA Zone Championships. He threw down the gauntlet early, opening with his highest score of 67.50 on a forward 2-1/2 somersault 1 twist pike which vaulted him to first place right out of the gate. Freshman Oliver Wignall ranked first in the final dive with a 52.50 to pull himself into a fourth place finish with a total score of 299.85. Fellow freshman Tristan Rodrigues concluded the meet right behind Wignall in fifth place with a total score of 292.05. Rodriguez recorded his highest point total in his fifth dive (forward 2-1/2 somersault 1 twist pike) with a 58.50 to help rise up the leader board to finish in fifth place overall.
After a slow start, UH's Chandler came on strong to finish in second place with a 249.55 total score. Her highest scoring dive of the day came in the fourth round. Her inward 1-1/2 somersault pike tallied a 45.60 that helped to propel her up the leaderboard. Macie Wheeler and Ruby Pickron finished right behind Chandler to finish in third and fourth place respectively. Wheeler also overcame a sluggish start, but in the fifth round, Wheeler scored a team-best 52.00 on a forward 2-1/2 somersault pike that helped vault her into third with a total score of 249.55, Pickron was close behind with a final score of 244.75. Avery Coates came in sixth place with a 235.65 and Lovisa Gustavsson took seventh with a final score of 232.75.
The men's and women's swim & dive teams will next travel to Dallas, Texas to compete in the four-day, high-powered, SMU Invitational from Nov. 19-22 at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center.
