LA JOLLA, Calif.--The University of Hawii women's tennis team wrapped up The Big West Fall Selection Event on Sunday at the Northview Tennis Courts. Hawai'i's
Makeilah Nepomuceno came up just short in a three set marathon in the tourney's championship match, while both of UH's doubles teams lost their semifinal matches.
In the main draw semifinals doubles matches, Hawai'i's team of
Sophie Rachor and
Grete Gull dropped their match against UC Santa Barbara's Raphaelle Leroux and My-Anh Holmes, 8-5. UH's Nepomuceno and
Hannah Galindo fell against Cal Poly's Kennedy Buntrock and Natalie Lynch, 8-5.
In the singles main draw finals match against Long Beach State's Pamea Badillo Hernandez, UH's Nepomuceno dropped her first set, but came roaring back to nearly toss a shutout in the second, In the third and deciding frame, Badillo Hernande broke Nepomucento early and eventually held her off in the third to capture the Big West Fall Selection Event title, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
