The University of Hawai'i coed and the women's teams were in action this weekend, sailing on opposite sides of the country in regattas held Oct. 4-5. The coed team placed second at the PCCSC Match Race Championship, while the women's team finished 16th at the Stu Nelson Intersectional.
Originally scheduled as a two-day event, the coed squad completed all 10 races at the PCCSCs on Saturday with a record of 7-3, competing against a field of five other California schools. Representing UH were sailors Erik Anderson, Everett McAvoy, and Leila Landay. Stanford took first with a record of 8-2.
The Rainbow Wahine made their longest trip of the season, contending in the Atlantic waters off New London, Conn. Facing a strong field of 16 other teams, UH completed 21 races split evenly across three divisions. Martha Schuessler and Avery Hogue sailed in A Division, Stella Taherian and Peyton Lieser in B Division, and Kahlia Bailey, Jenna Englehart, and Elin Reigstad rotated in C Division. Harvard comfortably claimed the overall victory.
The coed sailors will take a three-week break before returning to competition Oct. 25-26 in Redwood City, California, for the Fall Top-Nine Invite. The Wahine will also compete that weekend in Redwood City at the PCCSC Fall Championship, wrapping up their fall season.
