TEMPE, Ariz.—The Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Southwest Regionals rolled on into its third day of competition at the Kiwanis Tennis Center. The University of Hawai'i doubles pair of
Azuma Visaya and
Kosuke Nakanishi hung on to advance to Sunday's Main Draw Round of 16.
In their first match playing together in an official match, Azuma and Nakanishi held off Grand Canyon's Andreas Loizas and Tristan Berard by a break, 8-6 to remain in the hunt for the Regional title. Visaya and Nakanishi will take on UCLA's Rudy Quan and Aadarsh Tripathi on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. HT.
UH's other doubles duo in action—
Timothy Li and
Kent Mueller—fell to UC Santa Barbara's Lorenzo Brunkow and Diogo Morais, 8-2.
In the singles Main Draw, Visaya battled hard, but fell just short. Visaya evened the match at a set apiece after dropping the first set, but was edged out by a break in the final frame to Arizona's Cole Stelse, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.
