Women's Volleyball Embarks on Three-Match Road Trip

The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team opens a three-match Big West road trip to Southern California with matches at Long Beach State on Friday and UC San Diego on Saturday.
 
UH starts the fourth week of conference play by renewing its storied series with Long Beach State at the Walter Pyramid in a nationally televised matchup on ESPNU. The Rainbow Wahine then head to La Jolla to face UC San Diego at LionTree Arena. They'll remain in California for a match at UC Irvine on Oct. 21.

OPENING SERVE
  • The Rainbow Wahine have dropped three straight and enter the week as part of a five-team tie for sixth place in the Big West standings.
  • UH senior Tyla Reese Mane twice posted career highs in last week's homestand, first with 10 kills against Cal Poly then with 11 against UC Santa Barbara. Mane hit .345 for the week with 21 kills and just two errors.
  • UH libero Victoria Leyva has five matches of 20-plus digs this season and ranks sixth in the Big West with 3.91 digs per set. The sophomore had 18 digs last week to raise her career total to 500.
  • UH setter Adrianna Arquette is one of two players in the Big West with two triple-doubles this season. The sophomore set career highs with 14 kills and 17 digs to go along with 28 assists in a win at CSU Bakersfield on Oct. 3. She recorded the program's first triple-double since 2018 on Sept. 26 against UC Riverside.
  • Freshman Cha'lei Reid leads the conference with 30 aces and 0.51 per set. Reid also leads the team and ranks seventh in the Big West with 3.29 kills per set. 
  • Middle blocker Bri Gunderson leads the team and ranks fifth in the Big West with 1.14 blocks per set.
  • Miliana Sylvester ranks eighth in the Big West with 1.03 blocks per set and is ninth in hitting percentage at .284 to lead the UH regulars.
  • The 'Bows rank first in the Big West with 1.64 aces per set after serving up 10 in last week's homestand. UH is tied with CSUN for the conference lead with 105 total aces.

  • The Rainbow Wahine and Beach meet for the 66th time in a series that dates back to 1977.
  • UH has won the last four meetings with Long Beach State. The Beach's last win in the series came on Sept. 29, 2023 with a sweep in Long Beach.
  • The 'Bows are 18-17 in matches played at Long Beach State.
  • UH is 15-1 in the series since 2016.
  • UH and Long Beach State played to a 1-1 tie on Nov. 4, 1978. The match played in Los Angeles accounts for the lone tie in program history.
  • Long Beach State entered the week at 12-5 overall and alone in second in the Big West standings at 5-1. The Beach saw a nine-match winning streak end with a four-set loss at UC Davis on Oct. 11.
  • The Beach entered the week leading the Big West in kills per set (13.84) and blocks per set (2.56)
  • Freshman Logan King leads LBSU and ranks third in the Big West with 3.65 kills per set. She is also third in the conference with 4.33 points per set.
  • Setter Madi Maxwell ranks second in the Big West with 9.70 assists per set.

  • In their last visit to LionTree Arena, the 'Bows rallied from two sets down in a 13-25, 18-25, 25-14, 25-12, 15-10 win on Oct. 4, 2024.
  • Current UH setter/opposite Audrey Hollis played for UCSD last season and was named to the Big West All-Freshman team.
  • UCSD entered the week at 4-14 overall and 2-4 in Big West play. The Tritons are part of a five-team tie for sixth place, along with UH.
